LIGHT WEIGHT SLEEPING BAGS MULTI-PURPOSE (LWSB-MP)

Soldiers are ready for action even when resting in Ecotat LWSB-MP Ecotat LWSB-MP can come in different warmth ratings/weights/sizes to exploit advanced insulation material technologies

The patented Ecotat Light Weight Sleeping Bag Multi-Purpose now provides the user the capability to convert the sleeping bag into an over-garment.

It can be worn on its own as a long "great" coat, short "anorak" coat, poncho or unzip it and use it as a quilt. It has a head hole that opens by velcro so the Soldier can look out and his hands are free to operate weapons and night vision devices from defensive positions. It may be zipped to the TMP "Freedom shelter" or Bivy Cover MP as an interior liner when they are worn as a poncho to provide protection from a wet and cold environment.

Boots can be worn and held outside for alert "cat nap" sleeping

As a lightweight 3-season sleeping bag, it has uniform warmth which is created by non-migrating fibers that do not allow cold spots. Our multi-purpose lightweight sleeping bag is insulated with Trevira Comfort Fil 7, the exclusive continuous filament fiberfill from Hoechst Celanese.

Unlike cut fibers and foam, Comfort Fil 7 fiberfill won't mat or lump. Instead, its continuous filament will always rebound back to its original shape to keep your comfortable year after year.

The national stock numbers assigned by the U.S. Military are as follows:

NSN 8415-01-417-4001 for 0 degree F bag /-18 degrees C (Extreme Cold Weather Bag)

NSN 8415-01-416-6216 for +40 degree F bag / 4.4 degrees C. (Patrol Sleeping Bag)

Our Light Weight Bags Multi-Purpose are currently being used by the U.S. Marine Corps Reconnaissance Units, Navy Seals, Army Special Forces and the U.S. Army 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment and as stated above, will be a part of the air crew survival kit developed by the U.S. Army Aviation and Troop Command.

NEW! TIPS TO ENHANCE YOUR LWSB-MP!

TIP #1 Enhance the LWSB-MP Compression Stuff Sack

The LWSB-MP comes with a compression stuff sack. I suggest spraying the stuff sack and LWSB-MP itself with a coat of Kiwi Camp Dry(c) silicone to further waterproof them. Sew your last nametape to the top stuff sack flap for ownership reminders to others.

The best way to use the stuff sack is to undo only one of the cover flap's compression straps, lengthening the others to open to gain access to the main stuff sack. When its time to close the cover flap the one strap being undone allows the flap to be reversed and untwisted until your nametape shows; the correct side for compression tightening.

The sack can be tightened down to a size to make it fit into a buttpack or strap it across the top of the buttpack.

Tighten down all 4 stuff sack straps to compress

LWSB-MP compresses to size smaller than a volleyball!

When the LWSB-MP is being used, the empty stuff sack can be filled with a sweater or Brigade Quartermasters BivvyWear jacket etc. to make an expedient pillow. We suggest the LWSB-MP, and the Tent, Multi-Purpose (TMP) be stored as a unit in the LWSB's stuff sack and compressed carried outside or inside the buttpack as a "Combat Light Module" to attain climate protection without need of a rucksack. At your buttpack back its a sitting pad. The tactical pay-off is that without a rucksack, Soldier 4-7 mph foot speeds are possible to out-maneuver fleeting enemies on foot.

TIP # 2 Learn your LWSB-MP

Read your LWSB's operator's manual to know how to use it as a short and long coat as well as a sleeping bag and blanket.

LWSB-MPs without the hood, you need to realize the head end is the end with the black velcro strap that goes across the zipper end and has the Ecotat product label inside. The LWSB-MP models with a hood are obviously have the head end where the hood is. The importance of knowing where the head end is is so you can understand the 2-way zipper. Unzipping down from the head to the foot end, will eventually unhook the zipper where two metal prongs are. To reconnect, put the two metal zipper keepers together at the foot end and reinsert the opposite side zipper's prong. Failure to understand your zipper could result in frustration and snagging and possibly zipper damage.

Remove the Ecotat label for better camouflage and a slight weight saving.

ECOTAT LIGHTWEIGHT SLEEPING BAG MULTI-PURPOSE: Directions for Use

A. Sleeping Bag

Zip-up

Close foot end by wrapping the drawcord around the insulation and tie securely as close to the end as possible.

For added warmth, pull the drawcord at head end of bag, being sure to leave an opening for ventilation.

B. Long Coat

Un-zip approximately half way

Hold the sleeping bag in front of you with the zipper facing you. Step inside the zipped portion as if putting on a pair of trousers.

Put head through the opening and toss the unzipped portion over your shoulders

Pull drawcord ends from corners of unzipped sides and tie comfortably in front at waist. Push excess fabric to back of waist for best fit and neater appearance.

Unzip the bottom to give legs more freedom of movement if necessary.

C. Short Coat

Unzip approximately half way.

Hold the sleeping bag in front of you with the zipper facing you. Step inside the zipped portion as if putting on a pair of trousers.

Put head through the hood opening and toss the unzipped portion over your shoulders.

From inside, reach down and lift the bottom of the zipped portion to your waist.

Pull out the drawcords at back of waist. Cross them and bring outside and around to front of waist and tie comfortably. Smooth excess fabric to back of waist for best fit and neater appearance.

D. Poncho

Completely unzip the sleeping bag and lay flat with outside fabric facing ground.

Raise the sleeping bag by grasping the neck opening from the foot end of the sleeping bag.

Put head through neck opening and flip remainder of sleeping bag over your shoulders.

Tip #3: Use the LWSB-MP as expedient camouflage: the enemy does it, why not us?

The recent After Action Reviews of recent Afghanistan combat by the 10th Mountain Division reveal the enemy is using blankets to provide camouflage to hide from American firepower:

"The enemy moved in small groups of three to five fighters, making them hard to spot. "During the daylight, we watched them on the Predator," Hagenbeck told Field Artillery. "At night, when these groups heard a Predator or AC-130 coming, they pulled a blanket over themselves to disappear from the night-vision screen. They used low-tech to beat high-tech."

The Ecotat TMP and LWSB-MP could also be used as instant camouflage in the same manner by U.S. forces!

In addition, both of our Light Weight Sleeping Bags, Multi-Purpose have been selected by the U.S. Air Force to be a part of the survival kit in their aircraft called Multi-purpose Aircrew Bag System or "MABS".

LWSB-MP Extreme in stuff sack
Bag is in stuff sack but not compressed
LWSB-MP Patrol in stuffsack

The LWSB-MP patrol is not compressed here in its stuff sack; when compressed its the size of a volleyball

To do this, we have added versatility to the Extreme Cold Weather warm-rated and Patrol Light Weight Sleeping Bags Multi-Purpose by making them a modular system. That is, we have designed the two LWSB-MP types to zip together to provide a third bag type for use in extreme cold weather environments. Yet, either bag can still be used independently when a bag is needed in less severe weather conditions. We call this bag our Ecotat Combination Operational Sleep System Multi-Purpose (COSS-MP) aka the USAF MABS. U.S. National Stock Numbers are being requested for the COSS. At the present time, you can order COSS-MP under the following NSNs:

Over Bag P/N 94101-1l (+40 F): NSN 8415-01-416-6216
Super light P/N 94101-3L (0 F): NSN 8415-01-417-4001

The Ecotat COSS-MP consists of two sleeping bags, one +40 degrees F bag (the over bag) and one, either +20, 0 or -20 degrees F bag designed to be zipped together to prove a third bag or may be used individually.
